Our team of career development advisers run workshops, drop-in sessions and other events to help you get ready for your future career. They can help you write your CV and cover letter, learn interviewing skills, put you in touch with potential employers and they have lots of online resources you can use.

Employability Plus Programme

The Employability Plus Programme (EPP) gives you the opportunity to gain work-ready skills through volunteer activity with various organisations.

NxtStep - NZ's youth employment platform

NxtStep (formerly GradConnection) is a free platform that connects graduate students with employment opportunities.

Postgraduate student support

The Postgraduate Students’ Association (PGSA) run free events and workshops to help you make the most of postgraduate study.

Student Job Search

Student Job Search is a free online service you can use to find part-time, casual or full-time work while you study.

Clubs and societies

There are dozens of student-run clubs and societies for you to join on campus. You can even start your own.

International students

If you’re new to studying in New Zealand, we have lots of services available to help you make this transition easy, including a buddy programme and networking events.

Māori students

We have a network of Māori mentors available for you to talk to about learning support and adjusting to university life. They also organise events for you to go to and meet other Māori students.

Mature students

If you’re over 25 years old and interested in meeting other mature students, we have a space available on campus (see map) for you to use for study and group gatherings. Email admin@wsu.org.nz or call 0800 WAIKATO ext 4149 for more information.

Pacific students

Our Pacific Student Support Coordinator is available for you to talk to about Pacific support, adjusting to university life and when the next cultural event is happening.

Students of all sexualities

We have a network of staff and students on campus who work together and support each other with LGBTTIQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, takatāpui, intersex, queer) matters.

Counselling support

We have trained Counsellors to help you through whatever problems you’re facing, such as loneliness, stress, anxiety, depression, relationships and sexuality.

Disability support

Our Disability Support Services range from learning support, alternative examination arrangements, access to assistive technologies and specialist staffing. Our campus facilities are also designed to enable universal access.

Justice of the Peace (JP)

We have many Justices of the Peace (JPs) on campus who can verify your documents for enrolment or other purposes. If you require the services of a Justice of the Peace, drop-in clinics run twice a week throughout 2017.

Time: Tuesday 12.00 - 1.00 pm and Thursday 1.00 - 2.00 pm

There is no need to book, just turn up with all your required documents and the rostered JP will assist you.

Medical services

We have a team of qualified doctors and nurses on our Hamilton campus to look after your healthcare needs. Routine consultations and prescriptions are free if you enrol with Student Health Services.

Student safety

We take the safety of our students, both on- and off-campus, very seriously. We have clear policies that set out the standards expected of staff, students and campus visitors, as well as the complaint procedures and consequences for those found to be in breach of these standards. Student advocacy

If you need legal advice, budgeting or finance support, or feel like your voice isn’t being heard, the Waikato Students' Union (WSU) offer a range of advocacy services to help you.

We have a wide range of on- and off-campus accommodation options for you to choose from.

Campuses and locations

We have campuses and other facilities for you to access in Hamilton, Tauranga and Auckland.

Chaplaincy

Whatever your religious belief or background, or if you have none, our chaplaincy service is open to everyone.

Childcare services

We have a crèche on campus available for children aged three months to five years. We also have a Kohanga Reo (preschool taught in te reo Māori) near the Hamilton campus. Call +64 7 856 2982 for more information.

There are many ways to get to campus, including walking, biking, busing, carpooling or driving.

Nexus, the student magazine

The Waikato Students' Union (WSU) publishes Nexus, a free weekly magazine full of event information, news and opinion pieces about student life. Collect yours from one of the 30 distribution stands around campus.

Student Information Centre

Our student admin team can help you with all general enquiries, including enrolment, study fees, exam timetables and setting up your Student ID card.

Student learning

Our tutors provide free help and advice with your assignments, referencing, note-taking, exam preparation and other learning support.

Library services

Our Library offers many group and study spaces, computer suites, copying, printing and scanning facilities, and runs free tours and tutorials to help improve your learning.

Technology and computer systems

We have a lot of technology systems and computer software available for you to use, including free internet and WiFi, personal usernames and email addresses, and software downloads.
