The significant contribution made by the University of Waikato to the New Zealand research and innovation system is demonstrated by the results of the Tertiary Education Commission’s national assessment of research quality and performance. This assessment determines funding from the Performance-Based Research Fund (PBRF), and is based on the quality of staff members' research, by the number of postgraduate research-based degree completions, and by external research income.
Research is our lifeblood. More than one quarter, or $61.6 million, of the University of Waikato’s revenue comes from research and research-related activities. Our external research revenue is bolstered by our success in winning support from some of New Zealand’s largest sponsors of research.
